The Importance of Planning the Kitchen Work Triangle into your Kitchen Design

Having easy access to every facet of your kitchen is absolutely necessary. As many kitchen cooks know, applying the right kitchen layout is the difference between rare and well-done. If everything isn’t in the right order, is too jam-packed, or completely unethical, than trying to make a simple meal can turn into a complicated and unorganized process. We, at Capital Kitchen Refacing, a kitchen remodeling company in Yardley, PA,  want you to learn the best way to lay out your kitchen. This way is called: the Kitchen Work Triangle.

What is the Kitchen Work Triangle?

The Kitchen Work Triangle basically refers to the layout of the three main work centers in your kitchen:

  1. The sink
  2. The oven/cooktop
  3. The refrigerator

These three main components you use a lot, don’t you? Oftentimes, you may find yourself running from one to the other, and back again. You need food items from the refrigerator to cook on the stove, oven, or cooktop, but you either need to rinse them, use water, or wash your hands in between. You find yourself constantly going from one to the other in order to complete certain tasks in the process of cooking your meal. That is why it is necessary to have your three primary work centers each within effective traveling distance of the other.

The Work Triangle Guideline

To understand the efficiency of the Work Triangle, we need to go back to understanding basic Geometry.

  • The sum of the distance between your three work areas should be no more than 26 feet
  • No single part of the triangle (or leg) is more than 9 feet
  • No single part of the leg is less than 4 feet
  • Each leg is measured from the center-front of the appliance or sink
  • No leg intersects with an island or peninsula or other obstacle by more than 12 feet

This way, there is nothing in your path between what you need, and there is nothing stopping you from cooking up the best meal imaginable. We want you to be able to navigate your kitchen without running into things or not having the proper space to work. We understand the struggles many families face in their kitchens and we are here to help you with kitchen renovation in Newtown, PA or the surrounding areas.
